Tennis Lesson Prices in Singapore (2027): What You Really Pay per Hour

By Zhanna Kapranova, Co-founder, ContentGenZ · ITF tennis coach and tennis content creator · 2026-11-07

How much do tennis lessons in Singapore cost? The short answer on price: group lessons from the Singapore Tennis Association (STA) and ActiveSG work out to roughly S$9 to S$27 per coached hour, small-group academy classes about S$55 an hour, and private lessons S$100 to S$150 an hour for one or two players, with the court often on top. Below are the actual published fees, the same prices converted to cost per coached hour and cost per person, and the extra costs most price lists leave out.

I'm Zhanna, co-founder of ContentGenZ, an ITF tennis coach and a tennis content creator. I've written this for complete beginners aged 15 to 25 and for parents comparing options, because most of the pages ranking for this are lists of academies from 2021 with a "from" price and no way to compare them.

Tennis lessons in Singapore: price by provider

These are the fees published by each provider, read on 6 and 7 November 2026. STA's prices include 9% GST.

Programme Who it's for Published price Format
STA Adult Tennis Program Adults, all levels including beginners S$436 a quarter (1x a week) 2-hour sessions, 1 coach to 6, Kallang Tennis Centre
STA Adult Plus Tennis Scheme Adults free on weekday mornings (check level with STA) S$218 a month (1x a week) 2-hour sessions, 1 coach to 4, Heartbeat@Bedok and Kallang
STA SPEX Junior Tennis Scheme Ages 6 to 18 S$401.12 a quarter (1x a week); S$436 at Kallang 1.5 or 2-hour sessions, groups of 8, 7 centres
ActiveSG Tennis Academy, Youth Ages 10 to 18 S$130 for 10 sessions 1.5-hour sessions, Heartbeat@Bedok and Senja-Cashew
Play! Tennis adult group Adult beginners S$220 for 4 classes 1 hour, up to 5 per coach, Tanah Merah and Kallang (indoor)
Play! Tennis private and small group Any level S$240 for 2 lessons, S$680 for 6 (1–2 players) 1 hour; court fees not included

STA also has deposits worth knowing about: S$108 for the once-a-week adult class and S$100 for the junior scheme. There are no make-up classes for rained-out lessons, and no lessons on public holidays.

For one more point of comparison, a coach-booking site, Tennis Coach Singapore, lists beginner private lessons "from $70" an hour and group lessons at S$35 to S$50 per student (Tennis Coach Singapore). Independent coaches vary a lot, so ask exactly what's included.

What you pay per coached hour (the fair comparison)

Headline prices are hard to compare because the packages differ: a quarter, a month, 10 sessions, a 6-pack. So here's the same data turned into cost per coached hour and cost per person. This is our arithmetic, not a published figure.

Programme Cost per coached hour Players per coach What that means for you
ActiveSG Youth (10–18) About S$8.70 Not stated Cheapest coached tennis in Singapore if you're in the age band
STA SPEX Junior, outside Kallang About S$15–24* 8 Good value for teens; big groups
STA Adult, 1x a week About S$17–20* 6 Best value for adults; evening slots
STA Adult Plus About S$27 (assuming 4 sessions a month) 4 Smaller group, weekday mornings
Play! Tennis adult group S$55 Up to 5 Shorter commitment, weekend slots
Play! Tennis private, 6-pack About S$113 (S$57 each if two of you share) 1–2 Most feedback; book the court yourself

How we worked it out: ActiveSG is S$130 ÷ 10 sessions ÷ 1.5 hours. *STA doesn't publish the number of sessions in a quarter, so we assumed 11 to 13 weekly sessions after public holidays. Play! Tennis private is S$680 ÷ 6 one-hour lessons.

The pattern is clear. Group lessons are five to ten times cheaper per hour than private ones. Private lessons buy you attention, not more tennis.

The costs price lists leave out

Court fees

If a private coach doesn't bring a court, you pay for one. ActiveSG rates are the same at every public tennis venue (ActiveSG individual facility rates, last updated 25 August 2026):

ActiveSG tennis court, per hour Off-peak (Mon–Fri, 7am–6pm) Peak (weekday evenings, weekends, PH)
Singapore Citizen / PR S$3.50 S$9.50
Standard rate S$4.60 S$12.40

Add S$9.50 to a weekend private lesson and S$3.50 to a weekday afternoon one. For how the booking window and ballot work, see our guide to ActiveSG tennis court booking.

Deposits, GST and rain

STA deposits are refundable but tie up cash at the start. Some private academies quote before GST. And in Singapore, rain is a real cost: if a group programme has no make-ups, a wet month means fewer lessons for the same fee.

Gear

You'll need a racket, flat-soled court or running shoes, and balls for practice. Our beginner's guide to learning tennis in Singapore has a full three-month budget including gear.

How to split a private lesson (and when it's worth it)

Most private packs cost the same for one or two players, so sharing halves the price. Here's what one hour costs per person on a Play! Tennis 6-pack, including a citizen-rate ActiveSG court:

Players sharing Lesson per person Court per person (peak / off-peak) Total per person per hour
1 S$113 S$9.50 / S$3.50 S$117–123
2 S$57 S$4.75 / S$1.75 S$58–62
3 (S$850 pack) S$47 S$3.17 / S$1.17 S$48–51
4 (S$990 pack) S$41 S$2.38 / S$0.88 S$42–44

Three or four friends at the same level get close to the price of a group class, with a coach who only watches you.

When private is worth it: your first one or two lessons, to get your grip and swing right before bad habits set in; when you're shy about learning in front of strangers; and when one thing, like your serve, won't improve in a group.

When group is better: once you can rally a bit and need hours of practice, and when you want a weekly habit and other beginners to play with.

Questions to ask before you pay

Copy this list into your notes and send it to any coach or academy:

  1. Is the court fee included? If not, who books it?
  2. How many players per coach, and how long is each session?
  3. How many sessions are in the package, and how long is it valid?
  4. What happens if it rains, or I miss a week?
  5. Is there a deposit, and is GST included?
  6. Do you provide balls and a loaner racket for beginners?
  7. Are you on the National Registry of Coaches, and what's your coaching level?

That last one matters most for parents. CoachSG's National Registry of Coaches lets you look up registered coaches, who need SG-Coach certification and current first aid.

Can you use ActiveSG credits or get a student rate?

Sport Singapore says it raised the share of fees that ActiveSG credits can offset for youth programmes from 30% to 60% (MCCY, 6 May 2026). Whether that applies to ActiveSG Tennis Academy fees isn't stated on the academy page, so ask before you pay. We didn't find a published student discount for tennis lessons from STA or the private academies above. It's worth asking anyway.

Learning with a coach, on camera

If you're a young woman aged 15 to 25 and you've never played, ContentGenZ is running an open call for ten complete beginners to learn over six Saturday sessions with me as their ITF coach, film their progress and keep their racket after five of the six sessions. See the programme and apply.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a tennis lesson in Singapore per hour?

Group lessons from the Singapore Tennis Association and ActiveSG work out to roughly S$9 to S$27 per coached hour. Private lessons from academies usually cost S$100 to S$150 an hour for one or two people, plus the court.

Are court fees included in tennis lessons in Singapore?

Not always. Play! Tennis says its private lesson prices exclude court booking fees. STA and ActiveSG programmes run at their own tennis centres, but check with them before you pay. An ActiveSG court costs S$3.50 to S$9.50 an hour for citizens and PRs.

Is group or private tennis cheaper for beginners?

Group is far cheaper per hour. A private lesson gives you more feedback, so it can be worth one or two private sessions to fix your grip, then moving into a group.

How do I check if a tennis coach is certified in Singapore?

Search CoachSG's National Registry of Coaches (NROC). Registered coaches hold SG-Coach certification and a valid first aid certificate. You can also ask for their ITF or STA coaching level.
